Sandy Point State Park

By DullesMoms, June 2024

If you’ve ever driven over the Bay Bridge, spied a beach along the northwestern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, and thought it looked fun — we agree!

Sandy Point State Park, a 786-acre Maryland destination, is a natural treasure offering sandy beaches perfect for swimming, castle building, and picnics! If the beach isn’t your speed, there are also plenty of nature trails worth exploring, with many offering breathtaking vistas of the bay.

After a hike, be sure to stop by the Sandy Point Nature Center, located inside the park at South Beach Plaza. You’ll find an aquarium, hands-on activities, interpretive programs, and fun seasonal events. Next to the nature center, there’s a playground, too!

During peak season (between Memorial Day and Labor Day), traffic builds up at the entrance (fee-based, per person), and the park quickly reaches capacity. So get the details and plan ahead for a successful weekend visit to the beach!
