Rome will continue to be right around the corner — Tysons Corner — for one more month!

Due to the overwhelming response from area guests wanting to visit the exhibition, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition, which first opened at the mall on January 28th for what was supposed to be a month-long showing, can now be enjoyed through April 17, 2022, Wednesdays — Sundays. Visits take 60- to 90-minutes, and timeslots are available every half-hour.

Hosted at Tysons Corner Center, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition allows visitors to see Sistine Chapel paintings brought to life with high-def imagery, often life-sized! With the chance to get up close, from never-seen-before perspectives, you’ll see every brushstroke, detail, and color of Michelangelo’s 30+ frescoes.

Did you know Michelangelo was hesitant to accept the commission to paint the Sistine Chapel when it was offered to him by Pope Julius II in 1508? As a young man, 33-year-old Michelangelo considered himself a sculptor rather than a painter, and he had no experience whatsoever with frescoes. But, as history tells us, he did accept the job, and his name became synonymous with beauty and success. In total, Michelangelo’s frescoes at the Sistine Chapel cover 12,000-square-feet, and took four years to complete — from 1508 to 1512!
