The Trolls characters we know today are an extension of a pop-cultural phenomenon that began in the late 1950s. Troll dolls were created by Danish fisherman and woodcutter Thomas Dam. Dam couldn’t afford a Christmas gift for his young daughter and therefore carved the doll from his imagination. Afterward, other children saw the doll and wanted one too. Dam’s company, Dam Things, began producing the dolls in plastic under the name Good Luck Trolls!
